Edited for YouTube: The temple scene followed by the Leper Scene from the 1973 production Lyrics: MONEYCHANGERS AND MERCHANTS Roll on up Jerusalem, Come on in Jerusalem, Sunday here we go again, Live in me Jerusalem. Here you live Jerusalem, Here you breathe Jerusalem, While your temple still survives, You at least are still alive. I got things you won't believe, Name your pleasure I will sell. I can fix your wildest needs, I got heaven and I got hell. Roll on up, for my price is down. Come on in for the best in town. Take your pick of the finest wine. Lay your bets on this bird of mine. What you see is what you get. No one's been disappointed yet. Don't be scared give me a try, There is nothing you can't buy. Name your price, I got everything. Hurry it's going fast. Borrow cash on the finest terms. Hurry now while stocks still last. Roll on up Jerusalem, Come on in Jerusalem, Sunday here we go again, Live in me Jerusalem. Here you live Jerusalem, Here you breathe Jerusalem, While your temple still survives, You at least are still alive. I got things you won't believe, Name your pleasure I will sell. I can fix your (fade, screaming) JESUS My temple should be a house of prayer, But you have made it a den of thieves. Get out! Get out! My time is almost through. Little left to do. After all, I've tried for three years. Seems like thirty, seems like thirty. CROWD See my eyes, I can hardly see. See me stand, I can hardly walk. I believe you can make me whole. See my tongue, I can hardly talk. See my skin, I'm a mass of blood. See my legs, I can hardly stand. I believe you can make me well. See my purse, I'm a poor, poor man. Will you touch, will you mend me Christ? Won't you touch, will you heal me Christ? Will you kiss, you can cure me Christ? Won't you kiss, won't you pay me Christ? See my eyes, I can hardly see. (Repeat) JESUS There's too many of you...Don't push me. There's too little of me...Don't crowd me. Leave me alone!

  1. Eadbert Says:
this part always scared me as a kid... lol
  2. Cayden Says:
i thought the only reason he lashed out was because of money cangers charging people to pray in the temple
  3. GANO Says:
i thought it was weird first time i saw the family line, Abraham or who ever it was had a lot of children with gods help, and joseph was a descendant so he was some how important but he wasn't actually in any way connected to jesus except for the fact that he was with jesus' mother. so joseph had either no importance or it was because he was connected to Abraham (or whoever), that Josephs partner became jesus' mother.
  4. GIORSAL Says:
how come no one punched Jesus went he went out in a mans field and stole his corn and ate it on sabbath ? I mean turn about fair play isnt it?
  5. Alexandra Says:
Heck this part i dont get about bible. I mean these people needed to make a living to eat. I work on sunday. have no problem of it. i think he got peeved at the kind of markets it was. sort of seedy? LOL
  6. Adelia Says:
    ew stop
  7. SHUKURA Says:
*from the Holy Spirit (not *fro)
  8. Adali Says:
This is a matter of hermeneutics, but it is true that Matthew describes the genealogy of Jesus (through Joseph because he was the earthly father of Jesus). His sperm, however did not contribute to the conception of Jesus, the Holy Spirit did. It's a matter of interpretation, so of course there will be various interpretations. The Bible is a sacred text for me, and in order for me to understand it, I pray for discernment fro the Holy Spirit. If you think that's foolish or stupid...so be it.
  9. Deryck Says:
Is Carl Anderson the cripple who says "See my purse I'm a poor poor man" ? Is the one playing Judas supposed to play that cripple, because I swear there's other versions where they have a guy who sounds just like their Judas say that line (I mostly listen to CDs) So is it the same guy? Is their symbolism in that choice? Or was it made because of a limited number of cast members.
  10. Arjean Says:
Kind Herod's song is cool, but the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't take it as serious as the rest of the songs. I know it's not meant to but I do prefer these kind of songs. ^_^
  11. Ioseph Says:
i dont know herod part is pretty awesome
  12. Rheanna Says:
does he play Jesus? if he does i saw him play jesus live!
  13. Tami Says:
I love the atmosphere for the temple scene... especially the rotating thing with the mirrors
  14. PENDRAGON Says:
I read somewhere that the leper who first says "See my purse, I'm a poor, poor man" is actually Carl Anderson.
  15. PENINAH Says:
I saw this yesterday and the Leper part gave me chills I loved it so much!
  16. Maurine Says:
    agreed
  17. Lisandra Says:
Apart from Judas' Death, this is definitely my favourite scene of the whole movie.
  18. STODDARD Says:
Ted Neeley is such an amazing singer!
  19. LISBET Says:
"My temple should be a house of prayer"...and nothing else, i think is the point he is making.
  20. Rush Says:
This is a great and powerful scene, but I have a question. Wasn't all those thing they were selling stolen goods? Is that why Jesus was mad? I can understand him being mad about the prostitutes, though.
  21. TENTAGIL Says:
    A metaphor:-) ~Ric~
  22. Huritt Says:
now that you mention the mirrors, I think they were meant to show the sin inside each of us. Just my opinion though.
  23. GRISANDOLE Says:
I love the symbolism in this scene, with the strippers and the guns showing the sin being showed in the temple at that time to our modern times.
  24. DAFFODIL Says:
I kinda think there was a hidden message in the mirrors myself. ~Ric~
  25. May Says:
35 years later and this film still holds up like a champ! something special was happening in the 70's. still, i don't see what was so wrong with having a postcard rack in the mix. lol
