The temple scene followed by the Leper Scene from the 1973 production
Lyrics:
MONEYCHANGERS AND MERCHANTS
Roll on up Jerusalem,
Come on in Jerusalem,
Sunday here we go again,
Live in me Jerusalem.
Here you live Jerusalem,
Here you breathe Jerusalem,
While your temple still survives,
You at least are still alive.
I got things you won't believe,
Name your pleasure I will sell.
I can fix your wildest needs,
I got heaven and I got hell.
Roll on up, for my price is down.
Come on in for the best in town.
Take your pick of the finest wine.
Lay your bets on this bird of mine.
What you see is what you get.
No one's been disappointed yet.
Don't be scared give me a try,
There is nothing you can't buy.
Name your price, I got everything.
Hurry it's going fast.
Borrow cash on the finest terms.
Hurry now while stocks still last.
Roll on up Jerusalem,
Come on in Jerusalem,
Sunday here we go again,
Live in me Jerusalem.
Here you live Jerusalem,
Here you breathe Jerusalem,
While your temple still survives,
You at least are still alive.
I got things you won't believe,
Name your pleasure I will sell.
I can fix your
(fade, screaming)
JESUS
My temple should be a house of prayer,
But you have made it a den of thieves.
Get out! Get out!
My time is almost through.
Little left to do.
After all, I've tried for three years.
Seems like thirty, seems like thirty.
CROWD
See my eyes, I can hardly see.
See me stand, I can hardly walk.
I believe you can make me whole.
See my tongue, I can hardly talk.
See my skin, I'm a mass of blood.
See my legs, I can hardly stand.
I believe you can make me well.
See my purse, I'm a poor, poor man.
Will you touch, will you mend me Christ?
Won't you touch, will you heal me Christ?
Will you kiss, you can cure me Christ?
Won't you kiss, won't you pay me Christ?
See my eyes, I can hardly see.
See me stand, I can hardly walk.
I believe you can make me whole.
See my tongue, I can hardly talk.
See my skin, I'm a mass of blood.
See my legs, I can hardly stand.
I believe you can make me well.
See my purse, I'm a poor, poor man.
Will you touch, will you mend me Christ?
Won't you touch, will you heal me Christ?
Will you kiss, you can cure me Christ?
Won't you kiss, won't you pay me Christ?
(Repeat)
JESUS
There's too many of you...Don't push me.
There's too little of me...Don't crowd me.
Leave me alone!

December 1st, 2008 at 13:25:52 this part always scared me as a kid... lol
December 1st, 2008 at 13:48:51 i thought the only reason he lashed out was because of money cangers charging people to pray in the temple
December 1st, 2008 at 14:11:50 i thought it was weird first time i saw the family line, Abraham or who ever it was had a lot of children with gods help, and joseph was a descendant so he was some how important but he wasn't actually in any way connected to jesus except for the fact that he was with jesus' mother. so joseph had either no importance or it was because he was connected to Abraham (or whoever), that Josephs partner became jesus' mother.
December 1st, 2008 at 14:34:49 how come no one punched Jesus went he went out in a mans field and stole his corn and ate it on sabbath ? I mean turn about fair play isnt it?

December 1st, 2008 at 15:43:46 *from the Holy Spirit (not *fro)
December 1st, 2008 at 16:06:45 This is a matter of hermeneutics, but it is true that Matthew describes the genealogy of Jesus (through Joseph because he was the earthly father of Jesus). His sperm, however did not contribute to the conception of Jesus, the Holy Spirit did. It's a matter of interpretation, so of course there will be various interpretations. The Bible is a sacred text for me, and in order for me to understand it, I pray for discernment fro the Holy Spirit. If you think that's foolish or stupid...so be it.
December 1st, 2008 at 16:29:44 Is Carl Anderson the cripple who says "See my purse I'm a poor poor man" ? Is the one playing Judas supposed to play that cripple, because I swear there's other versions where they have a guy who sounds just like their Judas say that line (I mostly listen to CDs) So is it the same guy? Is their symbolism in that choice? Or was it made because of a limited number of cast members.
December 1st, 2008 at 16:52:43 Kind Herod's song is cool, but the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't take it as serious as the rest of the songs. I know it's not meant to but I do prefer these kind of songs. ^_^
December 1st, 2008 at 17:15:42 i dont know herod part is pretty awesome
December 1st, 2008 at 17:38:41 does he play Jesus? if he does i saw him play jesus live!
December 1st, 2008 at 18:01:40 I love the atmosphere for the temple scene... especially the rotating thing with the mirrors
December 1st, 2008 at 18:24:39 I read somewhere that the leper who first says "See my purse, I'm a poor, poor man" is actually Carl Anderson.
December 1st, 2008 at 18:47:38 I saw this yesterday and the Leper part gave me chills I loved it so much!
December 1st, 2008 at 19:10:37 agreed
December 1st, 2008 at 19:33:36 Apart from Judas' Death, this is definitely my favourite scene of the whole movie.
December 1st, 2008 at 19:56:35 Ted Neeley is such an amazing singer!
December 1st, 2008 at 20:19:34 "My temple should be a house of prayer"...and nothing else, i think is the point he is making.
December 1st, 2008 at 20:42:33 This is a great and powerful scene, but I have a question. Wasn't all those thing they were selling stolen goods? Is that why Jesus was mad? I can understand him being mad about the prostitutes, though.
December 1st, 2008 at 21:05:32 A metaphor:-) ~Ric~
December 1st, 2008 at 21:28:31 now that you mention the mirrors, I think they were meant to show the sin inside each of us. Just my opinion though.
December 1st, 2008 at 21:51:30 I love the symbolism in this scene, with the strippers and the guns showing the sin being showed in the temple at that time to our modern times.
December 1st, 2008 at 22:14:29 I kinda think there was a hidden message in the mirrors myself. ~Ric~
December 1st, 2008 at 22:37:28 35 years later and this film still holds up like a champ! something special was happening in the 70's. still, i don't see what was so wrong with having a postcard rack in the mix. lol
